The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has seen a wave of resignations, and Governor Seyi Makinde is allegedly preparing to defect to another political party as a result of the PDP’s crisis.
According to Daily Trust, current members of the House of Representatives, candidates running for various elective positions in the 2027 general elections, and PDP members have been quitting the party.
The following politicians have resigned:
Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, who represents the Ibarapa Central and North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, who represents Ibadan North-west and Ibadan South-west in the House of Representatives; Engr. Akeem Olatunji, who is the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government; and Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a PDP candidate for governor.
They both resigned from the PDP, citing internal strife as their reason.
“I am leaving the party because of the leadership crisis rocking the party,” declared Adebayo, also known as Ibarapakan.
In a resignation letter dated May 5, 2026, Olatunji, the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, wrote to Mojeed Raji Iyan, the Chairman of Ward 5, Oluyole Local Government, citing disagreements among the party’s national leadership.
Given that broader consultations with important stakeholders and Oluyole Local Government leaders are still ongoing, he implied that he would inform the public of his next political decision.
According to Ajadi, the party’s ongoing internal strife may eventually present legal obstacles to his bid for governor.
Odidiomo stated that despite the decision’s difficulty, it was necessary given the party’s current structure and his desire to keep pursuing his political goals.
According to reports, the governor is anticipated to announce the Action Democratic Party as the new platform that his supporters, loyalists, and PDP members in the state will use to run for office in the 2027 elections.
Fatai Ajani Owoseni (rtd), a former commissioner of police in Lagos and Benue States, has resigned from his position as the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund and Special Advisor for Security to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Owoseni’s decision to run for the state’s governorship in 2027 and his announcement of his new party platform in the coming days may have something to do with his resignation from Makinde’s administration.
In a letter sent to the governor via the Chief of Staff’s office on May 7, 2026, the retired Police Commissioner announced his immediate resignation.
He expressed gratitude to the governor for providing him with the chance to serve the state’s citizens.
