Former Super Eagles goalie Eter Rufai has passed away.
According to reports, Rufai died on Thursday after a protracted illness. The national team honored the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations champion and former Nigerian goalkeeper, calling him a legendary character in Nigerian football history whose achievements will live on forever. The Super Eagles celebrated Rufai’s legacy in a statement released on Thursday through X, highlighting his valor between the posts and his impact off the field.
“Dodo Mayana will always be in our hearts. We lament the departure of Peter Rufai, the renowned goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, a 1994 AFCON champion and a titan of Nigerian football.
