The Borno State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Abdulsalam Adakwaki, who is accused of raping a five-year-old girl in the State Low-Cost area of Maiduguri. Police spokesperson Nahum Daso addressed rumors circulating on social media, firmly denying claims that the suspect had been previously apprehended and released. According to the police, the assault took place on the morning of November 13 while the child was walking to school; however, the suspect fled before he could be detained.
The case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, and authorities are now collaborating with community leaders and the Civilian Joint Task Force to track down the fugitive. Daso emphasized that the investigation is being closely watched by the National Human Rights Commission and various civil society groups to ensure accountability. The public has been urged to provide any useful information to the nearest police station, with the command promising to share further updates as the search continues.
