Police Say NCoS Has Not Updated Us On The Ilesa Prison Break

Osun State Police Command says it is still awaiting an official briefing from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) regarding the jail break that happened at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa. DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the state police spokesperson, confirmed that based on intelligence, they already know that inmates escaped, but the police state command has not been formally briefed or informed of the incident by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). “We heard about the escape as well, but there is no official report made to the police by the NCoS,” he said.“From the intelligence report we received, there is nothing we can lay our hands on that made the inmates escape.” “The NCoS should inform us about what actually happened,” Ojelabi told the News Agency of Nigeria, adding that the police are committed to protecting citizens’ lives and property, saying, “The police are out to protect lives and property, and any criminal we see, we will apprehend.” “The cause of the escape is what we don’t know because our men have gone there,” he said.

According to Basemedia News, after the rains compromised the security of its facilities at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, the Nigerian Correctional Service began a massive manhunt.

Umar Abubakar, the Public Relations Officer and Deputy Controller of Corrections, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.

Seven (7) prisoners were able to escape as a result of the force majeure that happened on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at around 0200 hours.
