Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has accused members of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, of plotting to disrupt the state’s governorship election on August 15, 2026.
In a statement made on Wednesday by his spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed, the governor alleged that certain opposition party members were using anti-democratic techniques out of fear of losing the upcoming election.
The statement said that the suspected plot was motivated by internal opposition evaluations indicating diminishing public support for the party ahead of the election.
“Having clearly seen that the Osun people have rejected them, they are now resorting to anti-democratic methods in a last-ditch effort to secure power,” the statement stated.
According to the governor’s camp, opinion polls supposedly conducted between late 2025 and March 2026 found that the APC’s popularity was less than 30%, while Adeleke’s approval rating was between 68 and 72.
“This certainly demonstrates Governor Adeleke’s enormous public support. The opposition can already predict the outcome ahead of August 15,” he said.
The governor also said that Akin Ogunbiyi’s recent remarks against President Bola Tinubu’s position have upset groups within the Osun APC.
He stated that the scenario heightened tensions among party members, notably among factions loyal to former governor Adegboyega Oyetola, spurring what he described as desperate political maneuvers.
The statement also accused the opposition of attempting to destabilize other political platforms and advocating for their deregistration after failing to seize power.
In response, Osun APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi denied the charges, labeling them as false and indicative of uneasiness inside the governor’s camp.
Olabisi explained, “This is easy arithmetic. The famous politicians in their camp have all left. Consider Wole Oke, Fadahunsi, Ajilesoro, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, and several others.So, what remains of their party? Aside from being unpopular, their party lacks tenacity. The people of Osun should disregard Adeleke because he has no idea what he is saying
