Pregnant Women, others killed in Fresh Plateau attack

On Friday, gunmen attacked the Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, killing at least 13 people and injuring numerous others.

According to what our correspondent learned, the incident happened while the residents were asleep at around midnight.

Mr. Philip Alanga, a community member, told reporters on Friday in Jos that the attackers stormed the neighbourhood and started firing intermittently, frightening many locals and making them flee.

“They entered the neighbourhood and opened fire. They attacked innocent people by moving from house to house, according to Alanga.

Mr. Chigoji Rocku, another community member, revealed that three of the victims of the attack were pregnant women.

Additionally, Mr. Danjuma Auta, Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), confirmed the event to reporters in Jos, characterising the assault as tragic and unacceptable.

Auta bemoaned the frequent assaults on communities in Bassa LGA and other areas of the state.

He urged security services to step up their efforts to safeguard people’s lives and property in rural areas.

In order to prevent more violence in the area, he urged security personnel to find the attackers as soon as possible and make sure that justice is done.

As of the time of publication, our correspondent had not received a response from Captain Polycarp Oteh of Operation Enduring Peace or SP Alabo Alfred of State Police Command.
