Following weeks of power outages that interfered with social and economic activity, residents of a number of towns in Niger State’s Bida Local Government Area have expressed relief.
Before the Barrack Feeders network repairs started, the impacted communities—Darachita, Bangaie, Low Cost, Kobo Area, Federal Medical Center (FMC) Quarters, Polytechnic Layout, and Cabs Layout—had to put up with extended darkness.
The restoration came after vital supplies from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), such as poles and cables, arrived, allowing personnel to start fixing and reconnecting the damaged lines.
Speaking on the news, locals said that the return of electricity was a welcome relief, pointing out that the outage had impacted public services, businesses, and household activities.
Many credited the achievement to ongoing cooperation between AEDC and the Niger State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, which guaranteed the timely supply of repair materials to Bida.
Community leaders praised Suleiman Umar, the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, for keeping an eye on initiatives to restore supply to the impacted areas and applying pressure to the appropriate authorities.
The communities also thanked other stakeholders for helping the state government and AEDC coordinate, which resulted in the continued intervention.
Residents claim that the development is a reflection of the government of Niger State Governor Umar Mohammed Bago’s continuous efforts to enhance public service delivery and infrastructure throughout the state.
Speaking about the development, Umar gave locals the assurance that the state government would keep working with pertinent organizations to enhance the availability of energy and solve issues impacting communities around Niger State.
Many locals’ expectations for a reliable power supply and better living conditions have been reignited by seeing repair crews operating throughout their neighborhoods.
