A House of Representatives delegation visited Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, to offer condolences following the kidnapping of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
The delegation’s leader, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, conveyed his deep worry about the attack, calling it an unsettling event in a state widely viewed as one of the North’s most peaceful.
Abbas noted that the incident had shocked lawmakers nationwide, mentioning that he considers Kebbi a “second home” due to his long ties with the state.
He stated that the purpose of the visit was to show solidarity and assure Kebbi’s residents of the National Assembly’s support.
He commended Governor Idris and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their continuing efforts against insecurity, acknowledging the abduction as a setback but also a sign that leaders must strengthen the battle against crime.
The Speaker honored the late Vice Principal of the school, who was killed while trying to shield students during the assault.
Abbas also announced that the House will dedicate its upcoming plenary session to a detailed discussion of the nation’s security issues, adding that foreign diplomats are expected to attend as part of broader strategies to improve responses.
In his response, Governor Idris thanked the delegation for their visit and comforting remarks.
He called the attack regrettable and confirmed that the federal and state governments, along with security agencies, are tirelessly working to ensure the release of the kidnapped students.
He reiterated his concern over the removal of soldiers from the school just before the attack, stressing that insecurity is a major obstacle to development and requires enhanced cooperation at every level.
