Gernot Rohr, the former head coach of the Super Eagles, has stated that he believes the side should win the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs. Alongside the Panthers of Gabon, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, and the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eric Chelle’s team will fight for the only qualifying ticket. On Thursday, November 13, Nigeria will play Gabon in the first semi-final of the playoffs at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat. On the same day, Cameroon will play the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Rabat’s El Barid StadiumRohr, who oversaw the Super Eagles for five years before taking over the neighboring Benin Republic, thinks Nigeria has what it takes to win the mini-tournament. “We tried against the Super Eagles, but we couldn’t do it because they have so many elite players and strikers,” Rohr stated on Brila FM. “We were proud of our victory over them in the qualifiers, but I will be rooting for the Super Eagles in the playoffs.”
