A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oba Maduabuchi, has labeled the Free Nnamdi Kanu protest as entirely ill-timed.
Maduabuchi expressed this opinion during an appearance on Tuesday on the Arise Television program, ‘Prime Time’, in a statement monitored by BASEMEDIA.
He acknowledged the sensitivity of the Nnamdi Kanu issue to the Igbo community, stating, “As an Igbo man, I want them to release him even yesterday, because according to them, he is a freedom fighter.”
However, speaking from a legal perspective, he insisted that once a matter is submitted to judicial proceedings, parties are not permitted to resort to “self-help.” He argued that the ongoing protest constitutes this “self-help,” which is prohibited by law.
The SAN stressed that with the Federal Government having already concluded its case and the matter still pending in court, the protest essentially demands that the government interfere with the judicial process and instruct a judge to release Nnamdi Kanu.
