Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, was placed on remand at Kuje Correctional Center on Monday by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a brief decision, Justice Mohammed Umar ordered Sowore to remain in the correctional facility while his motion to stay the order revoking his bail and bench warrant was heard and decided. Umar also denied Sowore’s previous request for the judge to recuse himself from the case due to alleged bias.
The judge subsequently postponed the hearing of the stay application until June 24.
Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, the defendant’s new attorney, filed the stay motion.
On June 16, Justice Umar revoked Sowore’s bail when he failed to show up for his trial.
In a decision about the attorney’s oral request to the Department of State Services (DSS), Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, the judge also issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Sowore is being prosecuted by the DSS for allegedly making false accusations against President Bola Tinubu by calling him “a criminal” in a post on his Facebook and “X” pages.
