The Matasan Arewa Youth Development Initiative (MAYDI) has publicly expressed its dissatisfaction with the ongoing exclusion of Northern youth from key roles in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government. According to National Coordinator Abba Muhammad, speaking in Kano, young Northerners who worked tirelessly to ensure Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 elections have been sidelined almost two years into the administration. Despite having led the political struggle, these youths have not seen the expected prioritization in government appointments and policy-making. Muhammad emphasized that MAYDI is not looking for “favors or handouts,” but simply demanding recognition, inclusion, and a fair opportunity to contribute to the nation’s progress. To challenge this marginalization, the group is launching a comprehensive awareness tour later this month, beginning in Kano, which will cover all 19 Northern states through town hall meetings and community outreach aimed at reigniting political consciousness about youth representation. While MAYDI praised the President for establishing the Ministry of Livestock, it strongly appealed to both President Tinubu and crucial APC stakeholders to fulfill their campaign pledges by appointing more qualified Northern youth to decision-making positions.
