The Bauchi State government has officially denied rumors suggesting that Governor Bala Mohammed is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). Mukhtar Gidado, the governor’s Special Adviser on media and publicity, issued a forceful statement dismissing the report as entirely false and fictional. Gidado explained that the government felt compelled to respond to a “mischievous statement” from the PRP’s Bauchi State Publicity Secretary, who had claimed the governor would not be welcome in their party, noting that ignoring such a baseless remark could be mistaken for agreement. He affirmed that Governor Mohammed is not considering leaving the PDP, nor has he contacted the PRP, emphasizing the governor’s deep commitment to the PDP, where he currently serves as the chairman of the Governors’ Forum. Gidado highlighted the governor’s active role in strengthening the PDP against those he believes are trying to impose a one-party system in Nigeria. He also pointed out that Governor Mohammed has already defeated the PRP in two past elections, demonstrating his political strength. Finally, Gidado asserted that while the governor retains the constitutional right to determine his future political path, that decision will not be influenced by individuals he characterized as opportunistic and malicious.
