The coalition calls on the N/Assembly to expedite the bill for reserved seats for women.

Ahead of the general elections in 2027, the National Assembly has been urged by the Reserved Seats for Women Bill Campaign Coalition to expeditiously wrap up its legislative review of proposed constitutional amendments that would create 182 reserved seats for women. The appeal comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the schedule for the general election in 2027.The coalition noted in a statement signed by its Communications Lead, Hammed Adejare, on Sunday that while the electoral calendar’s release provides clarity for political parties, candidates, institutions, and citizens, it also draws attention to the shortening window for legislative action. The organization claims that Senate Bill 550 and House Bill 1349 both seek a constitutional amendment that would allocate 182 seats for women in the State Houses of Assembly, the Senate, and the House of Representatives.
