The Cross River State Diaspora Commission was formally established by Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu to involve Cross Riverians living overseas in state policies and development initiatives.
Otu emphasized the crucial role the commission will play throughout the global diaspora community while speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday in his Calabar office.
He responded, “I welcome and congratulate you all. Managing our people in the diaspora and enhancing Cross River’s reputation internationally are crucial tasks for you. I urge you to do your best because the work is really important. We anticipate that you will get to work right away and expand upon the framework we established.In order to promote investment, cross-cultural interactions, and strategic alliances that further the state’s development, the commission is anticipated to act as a liaison between the government and Cross Riverians living abroad.
The commission’s mandate also includes fostering unity among Cross Riverians abroad, facilitating developmental initiatives, and serving as a strategic arm for foreign relations and investments.
In his response, the Chairman of the Cross River State Diaspora Commission, Otu Esu Okor, described the appointment as an honourable call to serve.
He stated, “We are grateful to His Excellency for giving us this platform to contribute our quota to the growth of our beloved state. We are already in talks with diaspora partners to attract investments to Cross River. We will not fail.”
