As Cameroonian officials threaten to open the Lagdo Dam, the Benue State Government has taken preemptive steps to address floods in the state.
Over the weekend in Makurdi, the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) provided the guarantee.
The state government was awaiting a notification from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Terna Ager, the BSEMA Information Officer, stated.
He claimed that the story that Cameroon had started releasing water from its dam had been rejected by Prof. Joseph Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources.

According to our information, Cameroon has not released any water from its dam. However, the administration is not sitting on its laurels to be taken by surprise.
“However, we have started raising awareness of potential flooding by playing jingles on state radio stations.”
Ager added that stakeholders would get together to discuss any flooding-related concerns.
“The meeting’s objective is to prepare our people for flooding and lessen its effects.”
