Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State, has commended traditional chiefs for their vital role in preserving the state’s peace and security.
Speaking at an event on Sunday at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna where 23 vehicles were given to traditional leaders, the governor credited the cooperation between security agencies and traditional leaders for the success of the state’s non-kinetic strategy to combat insecurity.
He emphasized that the state would not have attained peace and stability without the backing of traditional leaders.
They have been working around the clock to share intelligence with security personnel and make sure they are always in close proximity to our folks on a local level. Our non-kinetic strategy for dealing with insecurity is effective because of this.
We couldn’t have brought security and stability to Kaduna State without the help of our traditional leaders. We are not only supporting you now, but we are also encouraging you because of this,” he remarked.
Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, was praised by the governor for making it easier for traditional leaders to receive their cars.
“This is to motivate you, because we cannot achieve much without synergy between the traditional institution, religious leaders, community leaders, and the relevant security agencies in Kaduna State,” he said.
Sani noted that Kaduna State has been peaceful for the past two years, with no record of ethno-religious or communal clashes. “Kaduna State is now one of the most peaceful sub-nationals in the country,” he said.
The governor highlighted his past achievements as a senator, including bringing interventions worth over ₦20 billion to the state.
Notably, the Faculty of Engineering at Kaduna State University, valued at over ₦12 billion, is nearing completion through the efforts of the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Mohammed Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
The governor stressed that synergy between government officials and influential figures is crucial for the state’s progress. “That is the synergy we are talking about,” he said, referencing the collaboration on the university project.
“Despite the fact that we couldn’t complete it before we left the Senate, one of the sons of Kaduna State, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Mohammed Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, is working closely with the Right Honourable Speaker to ensure that the project is completed. That is the synergy we are talking about,” he added.
Earlier, Speaker Abbas stated that the distribution of vehicles was part of a broader collaboration with the governor to strengthen the role of traditional rulers in peacebuilding and governance.
“These vehicles are intended to be vital working tools to help our traditional rulers reach every part of their chiefdoms and emirates; they are not just for ceremonial purposes,” he stated.
As part of the 2025 federal budget, the Speaker announced intentions to renovate palaces and expand automobile support throughout the state’s three senatorial districts.
Additionally, he said that provisions to provide traditional rulers a formal position in Nigeria’s government system will be included in the current constitution change.
“I want to reassure you that starting in 2026, the National Assembly will make every effort to give our traditional rulers a prominent role,” he stated.
