The Abia State Executive Council has endorsed the complete renovation and improvement of the Ojukwu Bunker and National War Museum in Umuahia, both relics of the civil war.
This decision was made on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting led by Governor Alex Otti.
Information Commissioner Okey Kanu, briefing reporters afterward, stated that the renovation aims to transform these war-era landmarks into important historical and tourist attractions for Abia State and Nigeria.
Kanu noted that refurbishing the sites would safeguard Abia and Nigerian history and boost their potential for tourism.
Abia State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mathew Ekwuribe, added that the state government would conclude all agreements with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments and the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy within one month.
Additionally, the Abia State government reported that 119,438 people have successfully joined the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme, bringing the total number of individuals enrolled in the State and National Health Insurance Schemes to 217,000.
The state also confirmed that there are no ongoing outbreaks of Lassa Fever, Yellow Fever, Cholera, Mpox, Diphtheria, or any other disease posing a public health threat within the state.
