The Lagos State House of Assembly, via its Public Accounts Committee (State), has started an in-depth assessment of the 2024 Auditor-General’s report, highlighting a renewed focus on accountability and responsible spending within all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Committee Chairman Kehinde Olaide Joseph announced this review at a briefing at the Lateef Jakande Complex, stressing that the goal is to improve governance structures, not to single out specific individuals.
Joseph stated, “The Assembly is constitutionally obligated to scrutinize public fund management, ensuring that government agencies operate effectively, adhere to laws, and provide clear value to Lagos residents.”
The committee disclosed plans to summon agency heads named in the Auditor-General’s report for explanations regarding anomalies and actions taken to resolve issues.
Full cooperation and openness from all relevant officials are anticipated.
Joseph clarified that the review will focus on matching spending with approved budgets, identifying structural flaws, encouraging smart public investments, and stopping mismanagement.
He insisted that results in governance must directly help Lagos State citizens.
Joseph confirmed that all violations of financial rules will face firm action.
He thanked Speaker Mudashiru Obasa for his direction and support, which has enabled the committee to effectively execute its supervisory role.
