In order to support the Basic Health Care Provision Fund’s (BHCPF) ongoing implementation in 2025, the Federal Government has invested approximately N65 billion in basic health.
This came after the 11th Expanded Ministerial Oversight Committee (MOC) meeting in Abuja on Monday, which was presided over by Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
According to the MOC, N32.88 billion has been authorized from the first-quarter 2025 release to fund the execution of the BHCPF for the first and second quarters of 2025.
The MOC claims that the amount, which is distributed equally at N16.44 billion every quarter, complies with the 2020 BHCPF Guidelines and should guarantee the continuation of vital health finance initiatives.
An additional N32.88 billion was authorized for implementation in the third quarter; payment is anticipated by the end of August or when monies are released by the appropriate authorities.
In order to improve Nigeria’s primary healthcare system and get the nation closer to attaining universal health coverage, the Committee reaffirmed its dedication to prompt and effective distribution procedures.
The updated BHCPF Guidelines 2.0, which are expected to be distributed by the end of the third quarter, were also formally accepted.
The minister stated that the revised rules are intended to improve accountability and coordination of implementation at all levels.
The Mini District Health Information System (Mini-DHIS) will be phased out starting in July 2025, the MOC also announced.
