The Senate ratifies Yusuf as the chairman of the NPC and other commissioners.

The Senate has approved the nominations of Dr. Aminu Yusuf (Niger State) as the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), and Kigbu Joseph Haruna (Nasarawa State) and Tonga Betara Bularafa (Yobe State) as Commissioners for the agency.
President Bola Tinubu formally submitted the request for the confirmation of these individuals in a letter dated July 31, 2025. The letter was read in the Senate on October 7 by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio. The appointments were confirmed following the review and adoption of the report presented by the Committee on National Identity and National Population. Senator Victor Umeh (LP Anambra Central), the committee’s Chairman, presented the report during the plenary session. Senator Umeh stated that the nominees underwent a thorough screening by the committee on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The committee was satisfied with their qualifications and responses. The committee confirmed that it had not received any criminal complaints against any of the nominees and that they were deemed prepared for the nominated roles. Essential documents requested before the screening included their curriculum vitae, code of conduct clearance certificates, police reports, and DSS clearance. The Senate ultimately resolved into the Committee of the Whole to consider the report, after which the appointments of all the nominees were officially confirmed.
