The United Nations has expressed deep sorrow following a suspected suicide bombing at a mosque in Gamboru, Maiduguri, which killed five people and injured 35 others during Wednesday night prayers. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall, extended condolences to the victims’ families and the Borno State government while wishing the injured a quick recovery. Fall joined Governor Babagana Zulum in condemning the attack on the place of worship and called for heightened security and vigilance. This incident follows a pattern of violence in the region, including a September attack that killed over 50 civilians and ongoing threats to displaced persons, farmers, and travelers. The UN reiterated its demand for all parties to protect civilians and their property in accordance with international law while reaffirming its support for those affected by the conflict in Northeast Nigeria.
