The Federal Government College, FGC, Enugu, emerged victorious from the Unity Schools Old Students Association’s (USOSA) 2026 National Sports Fiesta.
With eight gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, it was at the top of the table.

According to the DAILY POST, thirty Unity Schools from across the nation participated in the fiercely competitive sports fiesta.
Alumni from federal unity colleges across the country came together for the week-long sports festival, which took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Football, tug of war, march-past, swimming, lawn tennis, table tennis, snooker, ludo, draughts, badminton, volleyball, basketball, and golf were among the fiesta’s events.
Students Association came in second.
One of the strong contenders, FGC Ikot Ekpene, fought alongside 29 other schools to keep the trophy, but FGC Enugu dominated the medals table, and FGC Ikot Ekpene finished in second place.
Michael Magaji, President-General of USOSA, stated following the competition that the fiesta transcends competition and that sports are an essential instrument for fostering national cohesion and advancement.
“We completely understand the ability of sports to bring people together and promote prosperity. We have another opportunity to celebrate our diversity, deepen our ties, and show that we are responsible citizens thanks to this event in Enugu,” he stated.
Although the association is still dedicated to improving public education, Magaji pointed out that sports provide an extra forum for strengthening bonds and fostering national development.
“We hope to strengthen relationships that, in many cases, span 30, 40, or even 50 years and build bridges across the country through this initiative,” he continued.
He emphasized that USOSA’s actions are voluntary and intended to give back to society, especially the public education system that helped to shape its members.
He claims that the association is trying to bring back the high standards that were previously connected to unity schools.
“These were once centers of excellence, and while standards may have dropped over time, our goal is to restore and even surpass those standards, one school at a time,” he stated.
