Former Anambra State governorship aspirant, Valentine Ozigbo, explained that his move from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a “difficult but necessary step driven by love for Anambra State.”
In a statement, Ozigbo acknowledged the “curiosity, disappointment, and anger” among his supporters regarding his decision.
He confirmed his full commitment to the LP during its peak in Anambra and cited overwhelming grassroots support, claiming independent online polls reflected massive backing (over 90% in two separate surveys).
However, he alleged that his ambition was derailed by “internal betrayal and sabotage” within the Labour Party’s top leadership (not the grassroots). He claimed a deliberate effort was made to “stop my candidacy at all costs.”
Ozigbo stated he only asked for a “transparent process — a level playing field, not a coronation,” but found that the “very culture we condemned in other parties had taken root there.” He believes that by trying to force him out, the LP leaders “crippled the party itself” in the state out of “selfishness and short-sightedness.”
Finally, Ozigbo justified his move to the APC by concluding that it was the “only viable platform left to challenge the current administration in Anambra” ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
