Dr. Eme Okoro, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Abia State Secretary to the Government (SSG), has issued a warning to the party: Zone the 2027 Presidential ticket to the South East, or “expect failure in the zone.”
Describing himself as “one of the remnants in PDP,” Okoro told journalists in Umuahia that the party cannot rely on the South East’s support if their interests are not guaranteed. He lamented that the PDP is losing Nigerian trust due to “imposition, impunity, authoritarianism and disrespect to agreements.”
His ultimatum was clear: “PDP must zone the Presidential ticket to the South East. Ala Igbo must produce the Presidential candidate of any party that wants my support and those of the people.” He stressed the importance of respecting the principle of equity and avoiding past mistakes.
Okoro attributed the PDP’s poor performance in the 2023 Abia elections to the party’s refusal to heed his previous warnings against imposition and disrespect for the Abia Charter of Equity.
Finally, he declared he has “no regrets” supporting the Labour Party’s Governor Alex Otti, even as a PDP member, because his support was based solely on Otti’s achievements.
