second oldest woman to win a singles match at the WTA Tour level.
This accomplishment was achieved by Williams after she defeated her compatriot Peyton Stearns at the Washington Open on Tuesday.
The 45-year-old triumphed over world number 35 Stearns in the first round, winning 6-3, 6-4
The result of the match means that Williams is now the oldest woman to win a singles match on tour since Martina Navratilova at age 47 in 2004.
Williams has advanced to the second round of the WTA and ATP DC Open.
Remember that the player who won the singles Grand Slam seven times was granted entry to the tournament via a wildcard.
Since March 2024, Williams had not played, during which time she and her sister Serena won a total of 14 Grand Slam doubles titles.
