To earn a spot among the top four runners-up, the Super Eagles crushed Benin Republic 4-0. Later on, they will join Gabon, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.Ethiopia had lost 3-1 to Burkina Faso. However, Nigeria advanced because of a better goal differential even though both teams finished with 15 points. With 19 points, Gabon led the runners-up, then DR Congo (16), Cameroon (+9 goal difference), and Nigeria (+7). Burkina Faso (+6) just missed out. “Honestly, it’s strange: you win your matches against the weakest team in your group, and yet Nigeria is ahead of you, even though they didn’t even beat Zimbabwe, the bottom side in their group,” Yago commented in response on his X account.
