After Tyson Fury publicly criticized longtime rival Anthony Joshua after his most recent victory, heavyweight boxing may now be ready for one of its most eagerly awaited fights.
After defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov of Russia by unanimous decision at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday night, Fury, 37, issued the challenge.
The self-described “Gypsy King” wasted no time in focusing on a fight that has eluded fans for more than 10 years while Joshua watched from ringside.
Shortly after his victory, Fury took the stage and spoke directly to Joshua, pleading with him to consent to what he called the “Battle of Britain.”

Joshua pushed forward with a fierce retort, indicating both eagerness and confidence ahead of a possible blockbuster fight, and the moment swiftly intensified.
“You are a clout-chaser, Tyson. Joshua remarked, “I’ve never had any trouble getting in the ring with you—I punched you up as kids [in training].” “I’ll punch you up again while I watch you tonight.”
“This is your night, with all due respect. However, you refuse to advise me on what to do. For the past ten years, I have been pursuing you. You come see me with your terms and conditions when you’re ready.
“You work for me; I’m the boss.” The landlord is me.
With both combatants now seeming openly committed to making the match happen, the discussion has rekindled expectations of finally delivering a contest that British boxing fans have long craved.
Joshua, who presently has a record of 29 victories and four losses, is looking for atonement after losing to Daniel Dubois via knockout in September 2024. Fury’s most recent victory solidifies his place in the heavyweight category.
