Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno State, led governors from the Northeast to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday for a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The completion of 17 significant road projects and the restart of oil exploration at the Kolmani and Lake Chad frontier wells were among the main infrastructure and economic issues that were discussed at the meeting.
Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Bala Muhammad (Bauchi), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba) were the governors in attendance.
Roads like Kano–Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri Railway line, Bama–Mubi–Yola Road, Wukari–Jalingo–Yola Road, Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Damaturu Road, Damaturu–Geidam Road, Gombe–Potiskum–Damaturu–Biu Road, Maiduguri–Monguno–Baga Road, and Maiduguri–Ngala–Bama–Banki Road are just a few of the roads that Zulum, the chair of the North East Governors’ Forum, urged the president to give priority to the roads.
He emphasized that the projects’ completion would improve security, trade, and agriculture throughout the region’s six states.
In order to diversify the economy and generate employment in the area, the governors also asked for renewed federal funding for oil exploration in Kolmani and Lake Chad.President Tinubu responded by assuring the delegation of his administration’s dedication to tackling the Northeast’s economic development and infrastructure deficiencies.
