Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, has declared that he will not serve as a vice-presidential candidate for any individual in the 2027 elections. This statement follows rumors suggesting he might run as a deputy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is expected to lead the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket. Speaking in Abuja, Amaechi dismissed these speculations, asserting that his leadership profile is better suited for the presidency. He criticized the structural limitations of the vice presidency in Nigeria, describing the role as inherently subordinate and dependent on the president’s whims. Amaechi, who is also seeking the ADC’s presidential nomination, remarked that he would prefer a ministerial position over the vice presidency to avoid the inevitable conflicts that the office’s powerless nature creates.
