New details have come to light regarding the late Muhammadu Buhari’s decision not to support his former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, as his successor. According to Dr. Charles Omole’s biography, From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, the former president explained that his lack of personal history with Osinbajo influenced his stance. Buhari reportedly stated that he only became acquainted with Osinbajo through an introduction by Bola Tinubu and expressed surprise that the Vice President would choose to compete against Tinubu during the 2022 APC presidential primary. The book, which debuted on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, quotes Buhari as saying his connection to Osinbajo was entirely dependent on Tinubu’s initial recommendation. It is well established that Osinbajo served as the Attorney General of Lagos State under Tinubu’s governorship and was later put forward by Tinubu to be Buhari’s running mate ahead of the 2015 election.
