Public Affairs analyst and former deputy spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately suspend Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). This demand follows serious corruption allegations made by the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote. Frank argued that the gravity of the accusation is too significant for both the President and Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies to disregard. He conveyed this position in a statement to the media on Tuesday. The controversy stems from Dangote’s claim on Sunday that Ahmed spent five million US dollars, which equates to more than seven billion Naira, on Swiss secondary school tuition for his four children. Frank characterized this claim as “alarming and deeply disturbing,” insisting that it raises essential questions about the accountability and integrity of public officials. He believes the allegation warrants an immediate investigation by anti-corruption bodies. Frank stressed that because the claim comes from Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest man and a globally respected businessman, it cannot simply be dismissed and must be handled with the utmost seriousness. He urged President Tinubu to publicly address the issue, warning that any delay in taking decisive action would cast doubt on his administration’s professed commitment to combating corruption. Frank concluded that the President must act at once by suspending the NMDPRA CEO and ordering a transparent, independent investigation, cautioning that continued silence on the matter is unacceptable and sends a very dangerous message to the Nigerian populace.
