The State government claims that they were discovered to have manipulated payroll systems, which led to the illegal collection of excessive salaries over an extended period of time. The Chairman of the Abia State Civil Service Commission, Eno Jerry Eze, signed this document.The following civil servants were fired: Mrs. Hannah Ezinne Eze, Senior Executive Officer (General Duties – SGL 09); Mrs. Dickson Uche Eze, Principal Accountant (SGL 12); Mrs. Esther Emeruwa, Senior Accountant (SGL 10); Mrs. Ijeoma Jonathan, Chief Executive Officer (Accounts – SGL 14); Mrs. Treasure Isinguzo, Assistant Chief Executive Officer (Accounts – SGL 13); and Mrs. Chioma Victoria Erondu, Principal Executive Officer (Accounts – SGL 12).
The disciplinary action was taken after a thorough investigation by the Abia State Civil Service Commission, which independently questioned the officers, examined pertinent financial records, and verified that they intentionally profited from irregular salary payments to the state’s detriment, according to the Abia government.
However, the government revealed that Mrs. Chioma Favour Madu, who was the subject of the initial investigation, has been exonerated of any wrongdoing because she reported the overpayment right away and took prompt corrective action. In addition to urging all civil servants and other stakeholders to uphold integrity and report suspected irregularities, the statement stated that the indicted and dismissed officers would be turned over to the proper law enforcement officers for prosecution.
In order to guarantee complete accountability, Governor Alex Otti has also ordered that the actions of a few Salary Committee members be investigated independently.
