President Bola Tinubu should declare a national emergency, according to Salisu Mohammed, the Deputy Director General of the Northern Elders Forum, because of the level of insecurity in the North and throughout Nigeria.
While answering questions during an interview on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” program on Thursday, Mohammed made this call.
Insecurity in the north has now spread to Nigeria, he said, and the best way to address it is to treat it as a national emergency that needs immediate attention.
According to Northern elders, the country as a whole, and the North in particular, is in such a state of insecurity that the president ought to declare a national emergency.
We are arguing that since the insecurity in the North has now spread to Nigeria, a declaration of national emergency that calls for more drastic measures is the best course of action.
Because the nation’s security architecture has been overburdened, he stated, “this will require all societal approach, the engagement of citizens, not just Armed Forces, police, and security apparatus.”
