The Benue State government is advancing its efforts to reform the education sector by fully banning illegal fees in both public and private schools and making the use of electronic dossiers (e-Dossiers) mandatory for all students in the state. This directive was announced by Dr. Terna Francis, the Executive Secretary of the Benue Education Quality Assurance and Examination Board (BEQAEB), during the board’s initial meeting with secondary school principals in Makurdi. Francis warned that the period of unauthorized financial demands by school administrators has ended. He emphasized that the new digital tracking system, the e-Dossier, is intended to increase transparency and ensure schools are accountable for their daily operations. The e-Dossier will monitor each student’s academic history from Basic 1 through SS3, allowing the board to track their performance, migration between schools, and examination registration. Francis stated this system will “eliminate excuses, speed up result processing, and restore credibility” to the state’s education system. He further confirmed that all payments related to examinations are now fully digitized and must be processed either online or directly through banks. Francis stressed that cash payments and handwritten receipts are no longer acceptable, and any staff member caught receiving cash will face disciplinary action.
