The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has directed members of the National Sports Association for Judiciary to maintain proper conduct at the 2025 Judiciary Sports Competition, also known as the CJN Games, scheduled for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Meeting with members of the Association in her chambers in Abuja, the Chief Justice of Nigeria cautioned them against any actions that could harm the reputation of the judiciary.
She instructed them to be guided by the principles of sports, including cooperation, discipline, adherence to rules, and camaraderie. Justice Kekere-Ekun urged them to be orderly in their behaviour as representatives of the judiciary and to embrace sportsmanship by maintaining their composure consistently.
Furthermore, Her Lordship emphasized the need for the Association to ensure they keep proper accounts of resources provided for organizing the tournament.
The CJN also advised the male-dominated leadership to be more gender sensitive, humorously threatening to withhold approval for the next competition unless women are included in the executive positions.
Earlier, the National President of the Association, Mr. Noah Sunday, thanked the CJN for approving this year’s tournament. He assured her they would conduct themselves appropriately and would not disappoint the judiciary, adding that Akwa Ibom State is prepared to host the games.
A statement from Mr. Tobi Soniyi, Senior Special Assistant to the Chief Justice of Nigeria on Media, noted that the visit concluded with the unveiling and presentation of the tournament trophy and sports kits to the CJN.
