Nigeria’s civil society has been urged by the ECOWAS Court to assist in enforcing its rulings within the nation. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Court’s bilateral meeting with the Competent National Authority (CNA) and other Nigerian stakeholders on Wednesday, Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, President of the ECOWAS Court, made the request regarding the state of the court’s rulings’ enforcement. According to him, civil society is essential to the execution of the ECOWAS Court’s rulings, despite the fact that Nigeria has only implemented 10 of the court’s 66 rulings since its founding in 2001.
