In the continuing second phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) campaign, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered over 3.4 million new voters.
As of April 3, 3,441,121 registrations have been completed nationwide, including online pre-registrations and in-person walk-ins, according to the commission’s week 13 update, which was made public on Wednesday in Abuja.With 1,235,931 registrations, or 35.92 percent of all new voters, students emerged as the largest occupational group. Those involved in business (701,912, or 20.40 percent) and farming and fishing (615,967, or 18.28 percent) came next.
Additionally, 48,330 people with impairments were apprehended during the exercise, according to the commission.
However, INEC pointed out that the numbers are still tentative, characterizing them as preliminary pending data clean-up throughout the claims and objections period in addition to the Automated Biometric Identification System deployment.In order to finish the registration process before the deadline, the commission encouraged eligible Nigerians who have not yet done so to visit its official registration platforms.
The commission reports that 1,372,737 residents registered in person at specified locations across the country, while 2,068,384 citizens completed their registration online.According to a breakdown of the data, Jigawa State had the most number of registrants (201,047), or 5.84 percent of the total. Kano State came in third place with 177,681 registrations, followed by Lagos State with 181,095.
With individuals between the ages of 18 and 34 making up 2,354,768 registrants, or 68.43 percent of the total, INEC observed that youth participation continued to be predominant.
The gender breakdown showed that women registered at a larger rate (1,922,143, or 55.86%) than men (1,518,978, or 44.14%).
