Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a Zamfara North senatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), filed a pre-election lawsuit in a Federal High Court in Gusau to contest his exclusion from the party’s primary election.
The APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura are the first through third defendants in the lawsuit before Justice Hassan Dikko.
Due to what he claims was his illegal exclusion from the process, Shinkafi is requesting that the court declare the senatorial primary election void.
Unresolved issues pertaining to INEC’s involvement in the case prevented proceedings from moving forward when the matter came up for mention on Tuesday.
In addition to directing INEC to appear and all parties to exchange pleadings prior to the next hearing date, the court postponed the case until June 25.
Bello Galadi, the plaintiff’s attorney, expressed confidence in his client’s case and noted that the court would see to it that justice was done.
Senator Kaura’s attorney, Jaysey Sharka, affirmed that the case is still pending.
