Reports that the Nigerian government intends to disband the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) have been refuted.
The examination body in charge of standardizing and approving Arabic and Islamic education in Nigeria is called NBAIS.
The Federal Ministry of Education said in a statement released by its spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, that it was alerted to a social media post alleging that the National Assembly and the government intended to disband the board.
According to the statement, “The Ministry wishes to categorically state that the claim is false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.”
For the avoidance of misunderstanding, neither the Federal Ministry of Education nor the Ministry has suggested, launched, endorsed, or supported any policy intended to dismantle the Board or undermine its legislative mandate, nor has the Ministry introduced any bill before the National Assembly attempting to abolish NBAIS.According to the ministry, NBAIS is still a legitimate test and certification organization that functions inside Nigeria’s educational structure.
It voiced worry about the inaccurate material, claiming that it misrepresents the presence of a government-sponsored campaign against NBAIS.
The statement went on, “The federal government continues to support all legally established educational institutions and examination bodies in accordance with current laws, national education policies, and the principles of inclusivity, equity, and equal opportunity.”
Concerning NBAIS
Arabic and Islamic education in the nation is developed, standardized, and certified by the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, a government examination and regulating agency under the education ministry.

The board was founded in 1960 to supervise Arabic and Islamic schools in Northern Nigeria. It gained national recognition as an examination body in 2011 and attained complete autonomy in 2017.
The Senior Arabic and Islamic Secondary School Certificate Examination (SAISSCE) and the Tahfeez Examination for students who specialize in science and memorization of the Qur’an are two of the three major exams that NBAIS administers each year.
The Federal Ministry of Education recognizes its credentials, and many Nigerian postsecondary institutions accept them as being on par with other national secondary school diplomas.
