Ekiti Guber: CP is deployed by IGP Shogunle for a nonviolent, peaceful election

CP Abayomi Shogunle has been assigned by Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to serve as Commissioner of Police for the Ekiti State Governorship Election, which is set for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

This was stated in a statement that SP Sunday Abutu, the Public Relations Officer for the Ekiti State Police Command, signed and provided to reporters.

“The deployment is in line with the policing operational strategic measures approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, aimed at providing adequate security and ensuring a peaceful and violence-free election in the state,” the statement went on.

As soon as he took office, CP Shogunle reinforced the IGP’s enforcement procedures to guarantee sufficient security and strong cooperation with sister security agencies and election stakeholders.

These include counter-misinformation campaigns and initiatives, anti-thuggery and anti-cult-related activities, intelligence mapping to neutralise political violence, and careful planning for the safe transportation of electoral materials and personnel hired by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The Command has established a centralised operational framework to coordinate quick response as part of the comprehensive security arrangements.”

In order to properly secure all polling places, collation centres, election-related facilities, voters, electoral workers, observers/monitors, journalists, and vital infrastructure throughout the state, security personnel will be jointly deployed under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

In order to prevent any breach of peace and guarantee a smooth election process, the Commissioner of Police further states that sufficient security personnel are being strategically deployed to all identified flashpoints throughout the state.

Additionally, he guarantees that police officers assigned to the election have received sufficient training to guarantee professional behaviour and will strictly adhere to the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution and the Electoral Act.

In order to guarantee a peaceful environment prior to, during, and following the election, CP Shogunle urges all political players, community leaders, and the good people of Ekiti State to work with security agencies.

“The Ekiti State Police Command reassures all locals of its steadfast dedication to the successful conduct of a free, fair, and credible election as well as the protection of lives and property.

“To ensure a smooth election in Ekiti State, Dr. Shogunle, a fellow of the Security Institute, will use his demonstrated expertise in strategic security operations planning and election security management.

He oversaw the election security operation for the peaceful Anambra State Governorship Election in November 2025 while serving as the Commissioner of Police for the Anambra State election.

“The public is urged to uphold the law and report any suspicious activity to the closest police formation or through the Command’s emergency line, 08062335577.”
