Abdulkadir Ibrahim, also known as Abba Gwale, is a political analyst in Kano who has expressed concerns about the calibre of the state’s up-and-coming political leaders.
Ibrahim bemoaned the fact that the current political system is producing loyalists rather than capable leaders on his Facebook page on Tuesday night.
He was responding to the Nigeria Democratic Congress’s (NDC) recent announcement that Mustapha Kwankwaso would be Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo’s running mate for governor.
He claims that Kano State’s future is seriously threatened by the practice of choosing leaders based more on political expediency and allegiance than on skill and honesty.
The next generation of political leadership in Kano does not appear promising, barring any significant changes in the coming years, he wrote.
He emphasised that when making important decisions, political leaders must start putting the long-term growth of the state ahead of their own or their group’s interests.
Gwale pointed out that people in positions of authority are most likely to become future governors, deputy governors, and important office holders, which raises questions about the selection criteria.
“Loyalty, political appeal, or a willingness to act as a stooge should not be the only factors considered when selecting a deputy governor. Moral character, competence, and integrity should also be important factors, he continued.
According to the analyst, his evaluation of state politicians from various political blocs reveals a concerning lack of leadership ability.
“I have examined politicians from both parties, and I do not see many capable people. He declared, “I do not see future leaders who can take our state to the next level.”
Gwale said, “Instead, I see people who are primarily effective at delivering election results or maintaining political structures.”
He insisted that, for the time being, the situation is still dire, even though he acknowledged that an unexpected candidate might still surface and alter the narrative.
“The future does not appear bright for now, but someone may emerge unexpectedly and change the narrative,” he stated.
Remember that Aminu Gwarzo, the former deputy governor of Kano State and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for governor in the 2027 elections, declared Mustapha Kwankwaso as his running mate on Monday.
