The Oyo State Fire Service has officially verified that the body of a 65-year-old man was recovered from a deep well in the Oke-Oga Atipe, Idi-Aga area of Ibadan.
This confirmation came in a statement issued on Thursday by Maroof Akinwande, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the agency.
Akinwande reported that the agency received an emergency call at 9:42 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from a Mr. Damola, who reported that a man had fallen into a well at the location.
He stated, “Our officers, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Bamidele Samsudeen, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that a man, approximately 65 years old, had fallen into the well. His body was later recovered and handed over to a team of policemen led by SP Idowu from the Agugu Police Division.”
The chairman described the incident as unfortunate and urged residents to remain alert and follow safety rules at all times.
He also stressed the importance of prioritizing mental health and seeking help when in distress, while reiterating the necessity of fire safety measures, such as installing fire extinguishers in buildings, especially during the dry season.
The statement concluded by recalling that a similar incident occurred in November, when the body of a 45-year-old man was recovered from a well in the Odo-Ogbo, Oja-Agbe area of Iseyin.
