Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly urged the Federal Government (FG) to immediately discontinue the terrorism trial against the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a post on X, Sowore stated that the trial, which resumed on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, is a “sham built on politics, prejudice, and suppression” that began with Kanu’s “illegal and extraordinary rendition” from Kenya.
Sowore gave the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) “a few hours” on Thursday to file a nolle prosequi (a formal motion to discontinue the trial), calling it an opportunity to correct a long-standing injustice. He also appealed to trial judge Justice James Omotosho to “make history” by dismissing the case outright.
The activist argued that releasing Kanu would help restore confidence in the nation’s justice system and save the Tinubu administration from further embarrassment. Sowore plans to lead a nationwide protest demanding Kanu’s freedom on October 20.
