Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is alleging that the cost of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project is inflated.
Atiku, through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, stated that his initial alarm over the project’s ₦8 billion per kilometer cost has been vindicated. He noted that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who initially insisted the cost was ₦4 billion, has since admitted the actual figure is closer to ₦8 billion per kilometer.
This admission, according to Atiku, exposes the Tinubu administration’s lack of transparency. Consequently, the former Vice President is demanding that the project undergo an independent value-for-money audit and that all payments be suspended until the Nigerian public is assured the project is genuinely in the national interest.
