With three games remaining, starting on Wednesday’s trip to Villarreal, Nigerian striker Akor Adams is optimistic about Sevilla’s prospects of surviving despite the team’s La Liga relegation struggle, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
At the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Sunday, Adams came off the bench to score the game-winning goal in Sevilla’s 2-1 victory over Espanyol, bringing his season total to nine goals.
The 26-year-old seemed to have lost coach Luis Garcia’s favor despite being the team’s leading scorer this season, as he was benched in their last two games.
Adams had only played four minutes in Sevilla’s previous two games prior to the match against Manolo Gonzalez’s team.
But with three games left, the striker’s game-winning goal on Sunday silenced his detractors and lifted Sevilla above the relegation zone.
Los Rojiblancos, who are currently in 13th position in the standings, still need to perform well in their remaining games, beginning with their trip to third-place Villarreal, in order to avoid being pulled back into the relegation struggle by teams behind them, such as Alaves.
“I’m thrilled for my teammates and the three points. We put a lot of effort into it, and we are thrilled with the outcome,” Adams said on Sevilla’s official website.
Our goal is to score three points in every game. We will now travel to Villarreal and progressively continue moving in the direction of our goal.

Ahead of the season’s final stretch, Adams’ late goal against Espanyol moved Sevilla from 17th to 13th place in La Liga, relieving pressure on the team.

Every day, the coach reminds us of this,” he remarked.
