The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported on Sunday that 2,316,232 Nigerians have newly registered to vote nationwide, with varied totals across the states. Osun State recorded the largest number of new registrants.
INEC noted that registration is currently suspended in Anambra State until after the governorship election on November 8, 2025, in accordance with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022. Consequently, Anambra has no figures in this recent update.
The total figure represents both online and in-person registrations finalized during Week 12 of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude in August 2026.
According to the commission’s data, Osun State led with 185,089 new registrants, followed by Imo (143,386) and Kano (132,290). Other high figures included Sokoto with 123,320; Lagos, 109,693; the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 106,855; and Borno, 106,376.
* Other Notable Figures: Kogi (91,573), Jigawa (88,209), Zamfara (84,268), Katsina (80,425), Kaduna (78,282), Kebbi (74,159), Delta (72,311), and Ogun (71,091). Niger recorded 69,739, Akwa Ibom 65,446, and Oyo 64,561.
* Lower Figures: Rivers registered 57,251, Benue 42,557, Bayelsa 38,627, and Bauchi 36,166. Ekiti, Gombe, and Nasarawa recorded 32,096, 31,542, and 30,348 respectively, while Ebonyi, Edo, and Plateau posted 28,310, 27,130, and 24,077. Taraba had 17,803; Enugu, 16,304; Ondo, 16,012; Cross River, 14,559; and Abia, 12,297.
INEC observed that registration numbers are consistently high in South-West states, notably Osun and Lagos, while Northern states are also showing increased engagement due to enhanced voter mobilization by local leaders, religious figures, and community groups.
