Mr. Samuel Apata, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Somolu Constituency II, has urged President Bola Tinubu to get involved in the controversy surrounding the results of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, primary election. He claims that despite winning the poll, he was not given the party’s return ticket.
In an interview on Wednesday in Lagos, Apata insisted that although he was not acknowledged as the party’s nominee for the 2027 election, he had won the primary by a wide margin.
The lawmaker, who described himself as a devoted APC member who is still devoted to the party’s ideals and principles, expressed confidence that President Tinubu would see to it that justice was served.
He claims that the results declared following the primary did not accurately represent the votes cast by party members.
“With 9,081 votes, I easily won the second-term ticket that I ran for. It is regrettable that a third-place finisher with just 677 votes was ultimately named the winner.
“I support due process and party supremacy. I want my second-term ticket, but I am thankful to President Bola Tinubu for giving us this APC platform.
He declared, “President Tinubu is a man of justice, and I am confident that he will look into this matter and ensure that the right thing is done.”
Recalling his long history in politics, Apata mentioned that he had run twice for the chairmanship of the Bariga Local Council Development Area and twice for election to the Lagos State House of Assembly before winning in 2023.
The lawmaker highlighted his accomplishments while in office, stating that he had assisted with a number of development projects in Bariga, such as the construction and renovation of six schools in the constituency and the rehabilitation of Ariyo and Grace streets.
He claimed that his three years of experience in the legislature had improved his ability to serve the public and put him in a position to provide greater dividends of representation if given another mandate.
Apata expressed hope that the problems arising from the party’s primary election would be settled in accordance with justice and fairness, reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, and promised to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration.
