•decins Sans Frontières (MSF) has expressed new concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Borno State’s Gwoza Local Government Area, stating that thousands of lives are at risk due to funding shortages, dwindling aid support, and alarming displacement.
Abdulkareem Yakubu, Field Communication Officer (Press), Médecins Sans Frontières, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), issued a press release to DAILY POST that included the warning.
According to the organization, communities throughout Gwoza have dire medical and humanitarian needs as a result of years of conflict and frequent displacement, and medical facilities are still under tremendous strain.
Recent violence in Ngoshe, Borno State, has made matters worse and forced over 5,000 people to escape to Pulka. Many of the displaced families fled with very little, according to MSF, and are currently living in cramped quarters with little access to clean water, food, sanitary facilities, and shelter.
MSF reported that the already scarce resources in Pulka and the surrounding communities are under more strain due to the increasing number of displaced people.
MSF stated that it began a four-week intervention on April 10 in response to the emergency, concentrating on providing water supply, sanitation services, and the distribution of necessary relief supplies to impacted families in Pulka.
Additionally, the medical charity revealed that it has been helping Gwoza General Hospital since August 2025 by facilitating referrals for critically ill patients and offering emergency medical care.
It also stated that nutrition programs for children under five who suffer from acute malnutrition are ongoing in Maiduguri, while maternal and newborn healthcare services are being supported in Kushari in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
In order to stop the situation for displaced families from getting worse, MSF urged humanitarian organizations to immediately increase aid in Pulka, especially in the areas of food aid, water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions.
Additionally, the organization warned that ongoing shortages could jeopardize vulnerable communities’ access to life-saving services and urged donors to continue funding healthcare and humanitarian efforts in northeastern Nigeria.
