Presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga has pronounced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s political ambitions as hopeless, given the quick breakdown of his proposed coalition and the defection of key friends to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Onanuga attacked Atiku’s coalition efforts in a post on X (previously Twitter). The alliance consists of Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former SGF Babachir Lawal.
“Atiku’s political future looks bleak. The alliance he, Babachir, El Rufai, and newcomer Baba-Ahmed were scheming to form has fallen apart. Former running mate Ifeanyi Okowa and former CPC members are among the potential allies who are ignoring his leprous group. Once more, Atiku is a loser, Onanuga said.Onanuga’s remarks followed a similar statement by another presidential aide Tunde Rahman, who said that the defection of incumbent Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC and former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had worsened the PDP’s internal turmoil.
Rahman described the development as “the biggest shocker ever” for Atiku, whose 2023 presidential bid fell short.
He argued that with PDP governors now aligning with President Bola Tinubu, the coalition was “dead on arrival.”
He said, “Indeed, the counting of PDP Governors crossing over to APC has begun.
“Isn’t Atiku coalition dead on arrival? As my people will say, the glimpses of a Saturday that will be good will manifest from Friday.”
